Junk Speech
Homework
Keep an ear out for junk speech this week
Reduce (eventually, eliminate) the following junk words from your speech:
- like
- kind of
Dial back your junk speech using auto-correcting, words swapping or word elimination.
When you catch the junk word after it’s popped out of your mouth:
- Tool: Autocorrect yourself - stop, and repeat the phrase again w/o the junk word
When you can catch the word right before it pops out:
- Tool: Word swap - use another word (if one needs to be there) Use “for instance” instead of “like”. Use “similar to” instead of “kind of”.
- Tool: Word drop - eliminate the word altogether
