Volume & Pitch

Use the decibel meter to help recalibrate your volume level

Daily Practice:

  • Place the meter on a table about 5-6ft away from you
  • Practice the following exercises
  • Work to keep your voice around 65dB (65-70dB):

    1. Make and hold an “ahhh” sound, keeping the volume steady, around 65dB, from start to finish. Then cycle through other vowel sounds doing the same thing – example: “eee” / “ooo” / “eyee” / ohhh”
    2. Then, make and hold an “ahh” sound again, this time while gliding up and down your pitch range.
      • As you glide up and down, watch the decibel meter and aim to keep the volume between 65-70dB
      • As you drop lower in pitch, push more breath out
      • The higher pitches need less breath
      • Lower pitches need more
      • Run through this with other vowel sounds as well
